🤔 Quarter round or no quarter round?
Quarter round is the little rounded trim at the bottom of your baseboards. It covers the gap between the baseboard and the floor.
Skip it and you get a cleaner, more finished look. The painters tape off the bottom edge and caulk the baseboard right to the floor.
Here's the catch. A lot of builders add quarter round by default. If you want the clean look, you have to say something early.
This is exactly the kind of detail in my Ultimate Home Building Checklist. Knowing your options before it's too late to change them.

DON'T CAULK THE TRIM TO THE FLOOR!! The floor has to have the ability to expand and contract with the fluctuations of humidity that can happen in a home....literally the caulking can prevent this and the floor could swell, cup and or buckle, depending on the humidity....this dude is giving out horrible advice...

Never do quarter round. It’s tacky and lets the flooring people be messy and use it to cover their mistakes

New builds shouldn’t have quarter round. Do the flooring and then put down the base.

A real trimmer would scribe the baseboard for a tight fit .

Install the MF floor before the trim. No need for quarter.

Don’t do it a few months all that caulking will be yellow. You never cock your bottom of your trim, specially with vinyl or hardwood flooring. Don’t get me wrong. It does look nice the first few weeks, but after that, it goes downhill.

I love the look of Quarter-round. It's a great transition piece from the end of the floor to the baseboards. Using caulk is a terrible idea. It will eventually peel and discolor. Builders are always finding ways to make cheap cuts and make it look like a new better option or trend.
