Medical school is more difficult than law school. Practicing law is more difficult than practicing medicine.

Law school gets infinitely easier- once you get used to reading cases and understanding what you’re meant to get out of them it’ll take way less time. Law school teaches you how to “think like a lawyer.” But once your brain figures it out there’s no going back 😂

they tell you “go to law school if you love to read and write” BUT KNOW that you’re actually reading and writing basically a different language…. so it’s a different kind of challenge

Law school will really have you believe that you don‘t understand your own language anymore.

There’s a nurse on here that says law school was the easiest thing she’d ever done after being a nurse.

Pro tip stop reading the assignments it won’t actually help your grades. Go to class and listen to the professor. They tell you exactly what they want you to know

If no one has told you, having the medical background makes you super desirable for IP type of work bc it’s so specialized and niche and it pays super well. I don’t even think you can sit for the patent bar without that type of background.

law school imo gets easier once you’re used to reading cases. they’re structured a certain way, legal writing is different than other forms of writing. once you understand how to read a case it gets easier but those first few weeks of adjustment are super tough. it can take hours to get through a single case the way we’re expected to analyze them. and you have to read multiple per class.

Law school doesn’t teach you anything you need to know to practice as a lawyer. That you’ll learn on the job.

I’m so jealous of the American system in this regard( I know there are other disadvantages such as tuition, etc), because in Europe law and medicine are undergraduate-entry degrees aka 5 n’ 6 years and you can’t really “pivot” as easily and build upon your previous degree if you have one

I agree both are tough. I feel like doctors and lawyers understand each others stress levels bc of med school and law school

Wow, you are a glutton for punishment. I went to dental school and couldn’t fathom going to law school right after that. Props to you…My daughter is a 2L right now and you are not kidding about the reading part.

Did both also at top schools (& in undergrad, too), & law school was far easier (probably because I worked at the top firm before, during, & after going to law school). Too many new law students waste a lot of time trying to read every case carefully & prepare for class when they should prioritize studying for exams. Classes are almost irrelevant (the Socratic Method is relatively useless when the discussion is with a bunch of students who know little about the subject). Used to teach lawyers about STEM before going to law school, & the two professions definitely focus on different parts of the brain.

I think science and math education is extraordinarily helpful for a lawyer. Both require a high degree of skepticism and discernment of details. I have been a lawyer for over 50 years and served briefly on my state Supreme Court. I was asked to teach a seminar on the use of statistical methods in law. Intellectual property and medical malpractice rely heavily on science education. Civil rights cases requires math and statistical analysis.
