It’s as if people outside the USA don’t understand that most of us have medical insurance, either through an employer or privately

You're Welcome :
At least here you don't die from a broken ankle waiting on surgery! Like another country nearby, to the north!

I never understood the whole medical debt thing that people rag on America for. The most I can spend out of pocket for the entire year is 4k after that everything is 100% covered by insurance. Yea 4k isn't cheap but its not a bankruptcy amount of money.

Horses.and.Covfefe :
The vast majority of Americans have health insurance and that's why medical bills are so expensive. Hospitals know insurance will pay it.

do you not have medical insurance?
even if it was done on your own time and wasnt a workmans comp claim (to be paid by work) your insurance out of pocket max typically is around $15,000.

There's a reason Worker's Compensation Insurance is a requirement.

How much was covered by health insurance? And how much did you have to pay personally?

if it was done at work it's covered under workers comp and they would have still paid him for his time off not his full amount that he makes at work but he still got money from workers comp

Mind the fact they charge you six different ways from Sunday to cover all the doctors, medications, tests, etc. But this was THE charge of a craniotomy. I thank my lucky stars everyday for having good insurance. Although I’m still racking more bills cause I’m not fixed yet.

I had double hernia surgery 4 yrs ago. The cost in excess of 50,000 and I owed zero.
I had 2 strokes 13 yrs ago. I was in the hospital for 5 days with just about every test known to man. My insurance was through my job and was through BCBS. The entire thing was over $150,000 and my portion was zero.
It really depends on your insurance plan.

Unless you’re self employed and don’t carry workers comp it shouldn’t cost you anything, and you should get 60% of your wages while you’re recovering

Between company paying for there part, you paid $42,000. Thing is once the companies insurance amount hit a certain cost the individual insurance should kick in. So you may paid $42000 but what was your deductible?

The most expensive years of having cancer cost me about 5500 which at the time was my max out of pocket cost. There is a cap on how much individuals with insurance are liable for before insurance pays 100 percent. If you don’t have insurance and are considered low income it can cost much less though not sure that’s entirely helpful for the poorer among us.
