For me it’s disappointing because there’s this unspoken expectation of me to pretend as though I hold any respect for their religion so as not to offend them, even though they very clearly have zero respect for my lack of religion and in fact view it as some sort of challenge to drag me back in. Like, why do I have to sit there and nod along and act as though I think it’s valid for you to have these beliefs despite zero tangible evidence to back it up, only for you to tell me that I’m going to hell for not wasting an hour of my life every Sunday in church? It’s insanity.
