@doomsday.lab: What if Yellowstone erupted today? 🌋 A super-eruption seen from a city 140 miles away. Every number is from published research. Ash is falling and the roads are dark: do you stay and shovel the roof, or drive out? #yellowstone #supervolcano #volcano #whatif #simulation #Science #geology
so.... its NOT going to erupt... anytime soon... or possibly at all... DAMNIT!!!

To get that kind of an explosion from the volcano in YNP, the whole caldera would have to "unzip" and drop the caldera floor.

The ash will kill you if you breath it in, blind you if it gets in your eyes, it will clog engines, short the power grid, collapse roofs/structures, and poison above ground water sources, while it buries the plains in feet of ash, dumps it all the way to the Atlantic coast.

You didn't even touch on the food shortages that would occur from less produce being grown for lack of sunlight. An eruption like this would be a slow motion, cascading event catastrophe.

If that did happen the USA will have a hard time. Most of the Midwest and much of the East would be covered by ash.

pretty sure Yellowstone was classified as a "Super" Volcano, which means conditions up to 200mi away would have been worse then this & last a tad longer.

Chief, ALL of magma is a high viscosity liquid. The part that crystallizes is generally basalt (or a pure crystalline form of, say SiO2, depending upon the composition)
