@archguide.co: BULLOCKS WILSHIRE · PARKINSON & PARKINSON · 1929 Conceived as a westward flagship for a luxury department store chain, the building was positioned to intercept affluent shoppers migrating across Los Angeles. Rather than traditional storefronts, the architects designed it as a retail machine for the automobile age, with valet service and rear-door convenience replacing street-level browsing. Its slender tower rises as a beacon visible for miles, clad in terra cotta and trimmed with intricate metalwork and zigzag ornament. Inside, rich woods, custom fixtures, and interiors designed by women create refined social spaces that prioritize stylish vertical circulation over horizontal wandering. The result ranks among Los Angeles's most sophisticated examples of Art Deco commercial architecture, epitomizing Hollywood-era glamour through disciplined materials and cohesive detail rather than theatrical excess. GAETANO :
When I first moved to L.A. in 1964, I took my mom there for lunch at their tea room. It was old world class. The whole store echoed the past of a time when class and elegance was what it was all about. Sadly, the stores have changed and so has society.

A LONNNNNNNG time ago I bought a London Fog trenchcoat for $300. Seemed like a lot of money at the time...but I still have it and it's in great shape...35 years later.
