he was likely riding the brakes rather than lowering the gears, and in doing so he heated the brakes up and when you do that you get to a point and the brakes stop working. it's an easy mistake to make when you're not experienced at going up and down hills with a truck or tractor

Might’ve popped out of gear too, a lot of people are quick to blame the driver but with a tractor that old sometimes the transmission likes to throw you out of gear, mine does it to me all the time

Looks like he was going to damn fast. The breaks work independently. If one break locks up it will pull that way. You have to clutch it before you can hit the breaks. If not it’s going to pull to the side that is being breaking. He should have clutched it and hit both breaks.
