Every year in highschool my band teacher would put his cellphone number on the whiteboard a couple days before prom and told us all that if we ended up in a situation we didn’t want to be in and we were too afraid to call our parents, no matter where we were or what time it was or how intoxicated we were, him and his wife (also a teacher) would give us a ride home if we called. I never had to call, but I always recognized how important that was.

In 4th grade, I got what was called the “Integrity award”, which was this little certificate. The main thing my teacher wrote about me was that I don’t cave to peer pressure, and since then, I’ve used that in my everyday life. I absolutely refuse to compromise on my own morals and beliefs.

Not a teacher but I ended up in state prison with a juvie lifer cellie with 51 years in when I was 20. He told me very matter of a fact that “feel free to keep doin the bullshit you’re doing and eventually you’ll be my cellie again or don’t and make something of your life” you’re damn fuckin straight Nathan Im a home owner, father, and have a 6 figure income. Thank you.

I had really bad anxiety as a HS freshman that caused me to have a really bad attitude. So many teachers hated me. My history teacher noticed. He let me wear headphones when I was overwhelmed and on days where I couldn’t calm down he would invite me quietly to his desk to ask “did you take your meds today? You seem upset” and he was always right. When my prescription ran out or I forgot to take them, he always noticed. He made sure to take care of me. Even with the headphones I still had a 98 average in his class. Passed in top of his class. He later got promoted to assistant principal. I hope Mr. Marshmallow (Marshall) knows how much he helped me.

Every day of senior year during my last period I’d go into my English teachers room and fall asleep in the corner on the floor. It was her planning period and since I never made any noise she let me stay. One day as I was laying against my backpack I saw her walk in, lean down under a table and look at me. Seeing if I was asleep I suppose. She must’ve thought I was because she stood up, turned the lights off and started her lesson plans. After I graduated I asked her why she always let me sleep. She said “it seemed like you needed it”.. I got real unlucky in life growing up, some of the worst trauma I’ve had started my junior year. She saw I was hurting, she saw how exhausted I was every day. I hope she knows just how much that meant to me. I really did need it, thank you Mrs. Cottrell

i have adhd and when i was in middle i was additionally struggling with quite extreme anxiety and depression. this resulted in the majority of my homework being unfinished not because i didnt understand but because depression causes motivation issues and when you have adhd and already deal with executive dysfunction having a lack of motivation to do ANYTHING makes it extremely difficult to get things done. now add perfectionism/anxiety to the mix and you have a perfect cocktail for a kid who never gets anything done and cries the second you ask why. at one point my english teacher took me out in the hallway and asked me point blank why i never got my work done and i answered that i didnt know because i had no idea how to express the reasons i was struggling. unfortunately his response was "i dont know isnt an answer, its an excuse. you can sit in the hallway until you have an answer for me." and ive never forgotten that because i just felt so helpless in my own brain and like no one could help me because all i could tell them was i dont know

I worked as a school nurse at an elementary. I kept having a kid who wanted to “take a break” during recess in my office. I soon realized he wasn’t wearing socks or a coat and it was winter. I didn’t want to embarrass him. But we had just received a bunch of new socks and gloves. I used my own son the next day during recess in front of this kid and I offered my son dry socks, gloves or a coat if the snow got his wet. My son knew the plan. He asked if he can come in whenever if his socks got wet to replace them and I said of course anyone can just get some from the box u don’t even have to ask. The student got up. Got some socks, a sweater and went out to play. He came in a few more times after that before recess to get socks. No questions asked ❤️🩹 I’m no hero. I’m just a mom before I’m anything else

AP calc I said “f*** this” during a test a little too loud teach got up, took my test from me and said “what are you gonna do in the real world” I said I’m gonna go to trade school and start a massive company and fix peoples problems not math problems. She ripped my math test up gave me a 85 and said “ I believe you and I don’t know why” I just did my 2nd year in business 2.1 million in revenue. 👍 thanks Mrs. Reid.

I’m autistic. When I was in 6th grade, my teacher wanted us to find a group to complete a worksheet with. I had a harder time getting accepted by groups as a bullied kid. It was noticeable that I was the last one searching. When I finally found a group, she said in front of the whole class “glad you found someone who will take you. No talking about how you want to *unalive* yourself. They won’t keep you if you do.” (she used the actual word.) The class exploded into laughter. I didn’t consent to her sharing that info. I was shattered. 😢 Now, I am 31 and teach children and work as a mental health outreach worker. I’m in school working on my 3rd degree. My classroom is safe for all who enter, especially my neurodivergent kids.

I used to sell drugs for a living. my chem teacher saw my potential and threatened to turn me in unless I distributed the top tier drugs he could make. he then died 2 years later on his birthday taking a bullet for me.

My mom was mean af to me growing up. Repeated abuse from her, my bro and my ex step dad completely ruined my self esteem. I had a teacher who I looked up to, and he was strict but he was fair. One day I was wondering out loud to a friend why so many people disliked me. And he said “it’s because you’re pretty and you’re intelligent, and they’re intimidated by that.” he didn’t know it but at the time I had just recently been SA’d. I was using H. One simple line from a teacher who believed in me completely flipped the script for me. Haven’t touched H in 13 years, now I’m sober from not only that but from alcohol and Coca Cola too. It’s so weird, that was an average Tuesday for him and it was a completely pivotal moment for me. I still think about him.

my history teacher in 7th grade said to me “i know you are smart, why do you never come to school? you could have a good future if you just show up.” i ended up dropping out, my parents were addicts and i planned on being dead way before 18 which is why i never cared to go. now im in college doing my pre requisites to become a nurse so i can heal people.

I now HATE my teacher that said “I don’t know can you?” He was on a power trip. Proud to say that in 6 years of teaching, I have never ONCE said that. However, the best thing a teacher told me was: “Some people hurt others because they have nothing better to offer. Even if others aren’t, be kind.” Thank you Mr. Farr! You’re the reason I became a teacher.
