Not a Hippa violation. They can take back your pto. I would have done FMLA if eligible. They can’t tell you to cancel your surgery and it’s job protection. PTO is not job protection

MedicHolmes :
Not a HIPAA violation unless they are your healthcare provider. People think HIPAA applies to the general public as well and it doesn’t.

U can't no call no show if PTO was approved, especially 6 months ago? Also depending on surgery, can't discipline someone for a medical condition.

I really need people to normalize telling their boss that coverage is their problem not yours.

This sounds like it might be covered by FMLA instead of HIPAA.

I would have told her that "since I got my PTO approved 6 months ago and you don't have anyone to cover for you, that is your problem, not mine."

lol ummmm no. You will still have your surgery since it was approved. You have your FMLA and …. If they let you go… you can sue them for a wrongful discharge

Go to HR, formal complaint. if she tries to retaliate punish as well that's a violation of any company policy. just keep going higher. she's done this on purpose and probably acts the victim at every opportunity. find a new job if she doesn't get fired
