Morning light filtered softly through the tall windows of Thranduil’s chambers, spilling pale gold across the dark blue bedding. For once, there was no argument waiting for them. No confession left unfinished. No fear hanging between them. Only quiet. Elara lay beside him, her dark hair scattered across the pillow. Thranduil had been awake for several minutes, though he had made no attempt to move. He was simply looking at her. Elara tried to ignore it at first. She lasted perhaps ten seconds. “You’re staring.” Thranduil made absolutely no effort to look away. “I am.” Elara turned her head toward him properly. There was something unnerving about how calmly he admitted it. Her teasing expression softened as she studied him. “Do you regret it?” The question changed something between them. Thranduil’s expression became more serious. Elara looked away for a moment, suddenly far less confident than she had been a few seconds earlier. “Last night,” she clarified quietly. Thranduil watched her. “There are many things I regret, Elara.” A small pause. “Last night is not among them.” Elara looked back at him. The uncertainty disappeared from her face, replaced by a small smile. She leaned toward him and kissed him softly. When she pulled away, Thranduil remained close enough that the tips of their noses nearly touched. Elara smiled. Then she began shifting toward the edge of the bed. Thranduil watched her. She felt it immediately. “Thranduil.” “Elara.” She glanced over her shoulder. The calm way he said her name made her narrow her eyes. He looked far too innocent. Elara shook her head, unable to completely hide the smile tugging at her lips, and turned away. She barely moved an inch before an arm slipped around her waist. “Thranduil—” He pulled her smoothly back toward him. A startled sound escaped her as she fell against the pillows again, quickly followed by a small, breathless giggle when he followed her down. “You—” Thranduil lowered his head and pressed a soft kiss against her cheek. Then another near her jaw. Elara immediately raised her shoulder, trying to hide the sensitive spot. “Don’t—” Another kiss landed just beneath her jaw. She twisted away, pressing one hand against his shoulder as she tried unsuccessfully to suppress her amusement. “Thranduil!” The faintest hint of satisfaction appeared on his face. Elara stared at him. “You’re impossible.” One dark brow lifted. “I have never claimed otherwise.” “Clearly.” She shook her head, but the smile refused to disappear. For a moment, they simply looked at each other. The teasing slowly faded. Thranduil’s hand remained at her waist, but his expression softened as his eyes moved over her face. Elara’s gaze dropped to his lips. This time, she closed the distance. Their lips met softly. There was no desperation in the kiss. No fear that one of them would pull away and pretend it had been a mistake. Just warmth. His arm drew her slightly closer as she settled against him. Then— Knock. Knock. They stopped. Thranduil remained completely still. Elara slowly opened her eyes. His were closed. She watched the peaceful expression on his face transform into restrained irritation without him moving so much as an inch. Elara pressed her lips together. She was already trying not to smile. From the other side of the closed door came a hesitant male voice. “Sorry to interrupt, my king.” Thranduil opened his eyes. He stared toward the door. A beat of silence. Then, perfectly serious— “Then don’t.” #Thranduil#FantasyRomance#fyp#TolkienTok#thehobbit
