Be Careful If You See These At The Beach‼️⚠️ These small caves and dig-outs might look fun to explore, but they can collapse without warning. They form when waves, rain, wind, or people remove softer sand and sediment from underneath a heavier layer. As the opening gets deeper, more material is left unsupported above it. And it doesn’t have to be a giant sea cave to be dangerous. Even a small hole carved into a sandy bluff or beach bank can have hundreds or even thousands of pounds of material sitting above it. Wet sand is especially heavy, and cracks or loose sections can suddenly give way. Erosion can also weaken the ceiling from the inside, so a cave might look solid from the entrance while already being unstable above you. If you find one, avoid crawling inside, digging it deeper, or standing directly underneath an overhang. Beaches are constantly changing, and the cave that was standing yesterday might not be stable today. #education #learning #animals #nature #Oregon
