I am not sure if anyone will agree with my observation, but the fact is that people from our rural areas hold a deep love and affection for everything associated with the city of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). When they pick out these dates, the thought uppermost in their minds is that these come from the Prophet's city and are meant to be taken back home. Naturally, when people in Pakistani villages visit someone who has returned from Hajj or Umrah, they do so with the hope of receiving dates, Zamzam water, or prayer beads from that blessed city; that is the very expectation that draws them to visit. Consequently, these simple, sincere villagers do not buy these items for themselves—they purchase them for their loved ones.
