Me and my current partner we were hooked up by his mom. I attended a church service where she praises the Lord. She just instantly fell in love with me and told me about her son who has been looking for a while.

To the best of my understanding, love should be mutual. Love should be about giving and receiving, supporting one another, and making each other feel valued. It should not be a one-sided arrangement where one person is constantly giving while the other person only receives. I believe love should be give and take. If a man is expected to show love by buying gifts, planning holidays, paying for dates, providing support, making sacrifices, and constantly going out of his way to make his woman happy, then there should also be some form of reciprocity from the woman. It doesn't necessarily have to be about money or matching every single thing the man does. Reciprocity can come in many different forms: affection, appreciation, emotional support, encouragement, thoughtful gestures, acts of service, loyalty, respect, or simply making an effort to make your partner feel loved and appreciated. The same principle applies to women as well. A healthy relationship should not be built around the idea that one person is permanently the giver and the other person is permanently the receiver. Love is not a transaction, but it should have mutual effort. A relationship shouldn't be: “Because you love me, you must spend on me.” “Because you're the man, you must always provide.” “Because I'm the woman, I'm entitled to receive.” That mindset can create resentment over time. Instead, it should be: “Because we love each other, we both make an effort.” “Because you care about me, I care about you.” “Because you show up for me, I show up for you.” “Because you make sacrifices for me, I am willing to make sacrifices for you.” And no, reciprocity doesn't mean keeping a mathematical scorecard: “I bought you three gifts, so you owe me three gifts.” That's not love either. It's about intention. It's about knowing that your partner is also thinking about you. It's about being willing to say, “What can I do to make your life easier?” rather than always asking, “What are you going to do for me?” If one person is always paying, always planning, always giving, always travelling, always buying presents, always making sacrifices, always initiating affection, and always trying to keep the relationship alive, while the other person simply sits back and receives, eventually the person doing all the giving may begin to feel used or unappreciated. And that is not the kind of relationship I believe people should aspire to. A man deserves to feel loved too. A man deserves thoughtful gestures too. A man deserves appreciation too. A man deserves to receive a surprise gift sometimes. A man deserves to be taken out sometimes. A man deserves to hear, “I saw this and thought of you.” A man deserves emotional support when he is going through a difficult time. A man deserves to know that the woman he loves genuinely values him—not just what he can provide for her. And women deserve these things too. The point is not that men and women must contribute in exactly the same way. Every relationship is different. One person may contribute more financially while the other contributes more through emotional support, household responsibilities, childcare, practical help, or other forms of care. The important thing is that both people are contributing something meaningful to the relationship. Love should not be an entitlement. Love should not be a competition. Love should not be one person constantly proving themselves while the other person keeps demanding more. Love should be partnership. If you love me, let me feel it. If I love you, I should make sure you feel it too. If you support me, I should support you. If you encourage me, I should encourage you. If you make sacrifices for me, I should be willing to make sacrifices for you. If you celebrate me, I should celebrate you. If you make me a priority, I should make you a priority. That, to me, is what mutual love looks like. So before asking, “What is he going to do for me?”, perhaps we should sometimes ask ourselves, “What am I doing for the person I say I love?” #myfollowers
