@filmenthusiast: The Departed turns 20 today, and Mark Wahlberg almost wasn't in it. He turned the role down more than once, and Scorsese had to keep talking him into it. Once he signed on as Dignam, he fell straight back on his natural Boston accent. Scorsese joked it was so thick they'd need subtitles and it earned Wahlberg an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The Best Picture win surprised even Scorsese. He's said it's such a tough, nasty, violent film that awards never crossed his mind while he was shooting it. The film is a remake of Infernal Affairs, and the dialogue is some of the sharpest he's put on screen, from the opening monologue to every back and forth in the squad room. Twenty years later it's still the one I rewatch the most. How much would you rate it out of 10?
