@askellieai: Schools sometimes tell parents: **“We can’t provide that support until your child has an EHCP.”** But having no EHCP does **not** mean having no right to SEN support. Under Section 66 of the Children and Families Act 2014, mainstream schools must use their **best endeavours** to secure the special educational provision called for by a pupil’s SEN. And support shouldn’t automatically be delayed while a family waits for an autism or ADHD diagnosis either. That doesn’t mean a school has to provide everything a parent requests. But if a child’s needs are already apparent, **“they don’t have an EHCP” should not be the end of the conversation.** And if ordinary SEN Support isn’t enough, it may be time to consider requesting an **EHC needs assessment** — something parents can request themselves. **No EHCP does not mean no support. Know your child’s rights.** #EHCP #SENDParents #SENSupport #SENDRights #AskEllie
I got a letter from the LA offering me £200 because they took so long getting my daughter’s EHCP to her. Should I accept it or should I fight to get this error more visible? I wasn’t expecting the money and it would come in handy for my daughters new glasses, shoes, tights and shorts but I feel they are offering this because they know how wrong they are in the wrong, know how wrong it is and want me to shut up!

Oliver Lee | AskEllie.co.uk :
Please remember: no EHCP does NOT mean no support.
If your child has identified SEN, school should already be considering what support they need. And if that support isn't enough, you do not have to wait for school to decide when an EHC needs assessment should be requested — parents can make that request themselves.
One of the most useful things you can do is get important decisions and explanations in writing.
If you need help with an EHCP, EHC needs assessment or understanding what support your child should be receiving, AskEllie support is available through the link in my bio.

The School my Son attends said they was rushing through an EHCP last term, no one will tell me were they are in the process, I haven't spoken to the SENCO since yr 7 ( when it was parents evening and she was his teacher) he is yr 11 now. I have requested and requested a meeting but nothing. Today I have requested again where we are with the EHCP, I hope I hear back.
