In the early hours, the militant group Hamas launched a massive, coordinated surprise attack from the Gaza Strip, code-named "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood."The assault started around 6:30 AM with a barrage of thousands of rockets fired into Israel. Simultaneously, over 1,500 militants breached the heavily fortified border fence using explosives and bulldozers. They infiltrated southern Israeli communities by land, sea, and even motorized paragliders.The attackers targeted civilian areas, including peaceful border villages (kibbutzim) like Be'eri, Kfar Aza, and Nir Oz, as well as military outposts. One of the deadliest sites was the Nova music festival near Re'im, where hundreds of young people celebrating peace were trapped and attacked in the open desert.By the end of the day, approximately 1,200 people—mostly civilians, including children and the elderly—were killed. Militants also abducted 251 hostages, dragging them back into the Gaza Strip. The unprecedented scale and brutality of the attack shocked the world, fundamentally altered the geopolitics of the Middle East, and triggered the ongoing Gaza war.
