i've been struggling with ocd for years, i will never forget when my high school lit teacher saw me take my meds before class and pulled me aside to tell me to "stop relying on earthly solutions" and that i would be cured if i just "prayed more". ocd is a delicate matter and to be quite frank, most Islamic scholars aren't qualified to talk about it. they think they understand it but they really don't. I know that people go to them with these questions a lot and they wanna help but even if they have good intentions what ends up happening is they freak people out as if they're not scared enough already. if you're struggling with ocd, please PLEASE talk to a psychiatrist before you go to a sheikh. you're not weak for needing help, and your ocd isn't satan possessing you or whatever they say. you're going through a very common mental struggle and it's not your fault that this happened to you. it doesn't define you, and you're 100% capable of getting better

destroyed my life honestly and seperating the conditions from waswas allowed me to start my healing process 😭 doing erp saved me! I still love being a muslim but i resent the adults who prolonged my suffering. I no longer seek guidance from people just because they ‘appear’ as knowledgeable in islam without acknowledging modern day medicine

preach sis. so many of us with mental health issues cannot even turn to religion because we see stuff like that and so we suffer alone and feel like we are wrong. and if we do they undermine us or say we just need to pray. we need to do better in our community to make people with mental health issues feel seen. and i rlly despise that man, everytime i see him, he’s saying smth disgusting.

I think some of our scholars who were so fixated in doing things a particular way were neurodivergent. Those who go to faqih and ask details for every little thing instead of using their best judgement - also neurodivergent
