All of this. I just had a conversation with my 12 year old son. I explained the Cornell situation, the group chat and asked him what he'd do if invited to participate. He said "nothing". he wouldn't participate, but he'd also be afraid to speak up because "what if they beat me up for snitching". I knew that was the problem I'd have to address. He explained what rape is, even using the word consent without my prompting. We've been talking about consent since he was born. But the needing to belong is so important. It's heartbreaking.
