I like a Jewish interpretation. It’s just a parable to ask people why they’re following God, just for the benefits? That removes the issue of God character actually doing the nonsense, because it’s a parable. Or in a more secular interpretation, are you only doing the right thing for shallow reasons?

God's out walking around and talking about the faith job has. the devil runs up and God ask where he's been. probably a joke a devil doesn't get. the devil says job is only faithful because God is good to job. the devil says take it away and job will lose faith. the devil is trying to test what God has already said. job was given trials but look at what the devil was doing to job. just so the devil could win the argument. seems more like the devil was being tested on how far it would go just to win a verbal disagreement. I think it just shows how insane the devil is.

honestly, I don't even see job as literal history. I view it as an ancient work of Hebrew philosophy, similar in style to the Socratic dialogues of Plato.

I like the Ann Rice novel Memnoch the Devil. Where Memnoch & God are having a dialogue & are exploring theological issues! It’s pretty good!

I personally think it's more exploitation by God on Job do whatever you want don't kill him but then again we've seen God do this with his son Jesus Christ we've seen him do this with Abraham and Isaac, etc.

God first brought job to Satan. Job 2:3 “have you considered my servant Job…though you incited me against him[Job]to ruin him for no reason” Job 2:6 “…very well then, he is in your [Satan’s] hands; but you must spare his life”. God literally let his life be ruined “for no reason”. God seemed to he insecure for sure.

He has to prove himself to Satan but can't be bothered to prove his existence to us?

You have to read Job's responses to his wife again. Satan made a truly righteous accusation, issues for eternity were contained there in. Job's trial was on behalf of all creation. But Job claimed he knew his redeemer, and therefore when He dies, as we all do, He will have all those lost family members back, because he had a perfect hope beyond his mortality. The value of the conversations with his three friends is that the futility of the religious boxes we try to put God in are all exposed. It would do you good to get acquainted with the brevity of this life. And there is no such thing as fairness, just the hope of mercy.

God asked Satan- “where have you come from?” Knowing full well that Satan had been setting his eye on Job. That is why he asked Satan,”have you taken note of (or set your heart upon) Heb. My servant Job? He knew Satan was about to attack Job for his faithfulness… Job was a lover of God and prospering.. Satan can’t have that. So he made the claim that the only reason Job worshipped god was because God had some kind of protective hedge around him, and that if all of his prosperity was gone then Job would stop worshipping god. Satan even tried to force gods hand in the matter- telling God to strike Job. But god refused. Instead, he acknowledged that everything Job had was in fact something that Satan already had the power to take away - except Jobs life. 1 John 5:19- as to why god allowed this- Satan had his heart set on Job already-he was prepared to cause Job harm when he showed up in gods presence that day. He made the charges he made in the middle of gods court- when “the sons of the true god entered to take their station” before Him. So Here God is, knowing Job is about to get attacked, and having to answer this charge- while an enumerable amount of additional spirit creatures were witnessing this. Likely hoping to take down additional spirit creatures, Satan makes his claim. Yes god can ignore it but it doesn’t answer the claim- it leaves the question open for all observing spirit creatures of God. Knowing that Satan was planning to harass Job, he flatly refused to cause any harm to Job himself but told Satan he was not to take Jobs life.
