AT RISK ‼️ meet Layla 💖#Layla is the tiny shepherd mix with a huge heart who lost her home through no fault of her own. Layla is only 30 pounds, a little shepherd‑lookalike in miniature, and she once had a real home. Her owner described her as “social and affectionate” and said she was playful with familiar dogs and a wonderful companion. She loved her people deeply. She just struggled with strangers — and when her owner became ill and could no longer care for her, Layla lost the one person who understood her. Now she’s in a crowded, noisy shelter full of unfamiliar faces, and she’s overwhelmed. But even here, her sweetness still shows. Outside the #nycacc kennel, she walks quietly beside handlers, sniffs gently, and even leans in for pets when she feels safe. In one note, a handler wrote that Layla “jumped onto the bench and sat… leaning into handler at times while getting petted.” That’s the real Layla — the loving dog she was in her home. She doesn’t need a big, busy family. She doesn’t need dog parks. She doesn’t need a crowd of new people. She needs exactly what she had before: an experienced, patient adult who will let her warm up at her own pace and give her the quiet, gentle life she was meant for. Layla didn’t do anything wrong. She is the collateral damage of an illness, not a “problem dog.” She is shy, sensitive, and full of love once she trusts you. This little shepherd‑mix deserves to feel safe again. She deserves someone who sees past her fear and remembers the affectionate companion she truly is. If you are an experienced foster or adopter who can save this dog’s life, MESSAGE NYCDogsLivesMatter@gmail.com
