| Sri Thendayuthapani Temple Singapore
This Bible verse is really tender, and its origin makes it even more impactful. **Where it comes from:** Lamentations was written by the prophet Jeremiah after Jerusalem was destroyed. The temple was burned, people were exiled, and everything felt lost. The book is called Lamentations because it’s full of weeping and grief. Right in the middle of that darkness, in chapter 3, Jeremiah stops mourning and remembers who God is. It wasn't written from a palace during easy times, but from the ashes. That’s why it hits so hard. Two Hebrew words in particular carry the whole verse: * "Great love" is *hesed*. It's not just a feeling, but a loyal, covenant love that shows up and stays, even when you have nothing to offer. It keeps promises. * "Compassions" is *rachamim*. This comes from the word for womb, meaning a mother-like, gut-level compassion that is tender, protective, and life-giving. Jeremiah is essentially saying that we are still here, not consumed by grief, not because of our strength, but because God’s womb-love for us never runs out. Then there’s that famous line: "They are new every morning." In Hebrew, this suggests something fresh and unused, like warm bread straight from the oven. God doesn't just re-use yesterday's mercy; He bakes it fresh for you today. **Its Beautiful Meaning:** The world often tells us to carry everything—yesterday's mistakes, last week's worries, last year's regrets. This verse reminds us that we don't have to. God's faithfulness doesn’t depend on ours. Just like the sun rises without asking if we deserve it, mercy does the same. You are not consumed. You might feel burned out, stretched thin, anxious, or tired—especially when carrying so much for others—but you are not consumed. There's a love holding a boundary around you, saying "this far, and no further." It's "Great is His faithfulness," not "Great is your performance." It's His. **How to Apply it Today (October 6th, 2026):** This verse isn't just poetry; it's a practice. * **For your mornings:** Before checking your phone or facing the day's demands, whisper, "Your mercies are new this morning." Let today be its own day. Don’t drag October 5th into October 6th, because God didn’t. * **For your anxiety:** When overwhelmed, if you hear the lie that you’ve used up all your second chances, remember this verse. His compassion has no expiration date. In a world of limited resources and patience, His compassion is unlimited. * **For your relationships:** We often get tired of forgiving and keep score. *Hesed* love teaches us to love differently—to be loyal, not just emotional. Ask yourself: Who in my life needs that steady, womb-like compassion from me today? * **When you feel far from God:** You don't have to climb back to Him. Lamentations shows that you can meet Him right in the ruins. You can be honest and say, "God, today is hard." In that honest place, you'll find fresh mercy already waiting. For October 6th, write it down where you'll see it. Maybe a sticky note on your coffee maker: "New this morning." #BibleTeaching #Lamentations #GodsLove #DailyDevotion #Faithfulness
