Then think of the upper and lower eyelids as forms wrapping around that sphere. As the eye turns, the curvature of the eyelids changes with it. This also helps you understand why the eyelids have thickness, why the corners sit where they do, and how the eye fits into the larger structure of the head. When practicing portrait drawing and figure drawing, always try to understand the 3D form underneath the contour you see. Build the sphere first. Wrap the eyelids around it. Then add the details.
