Four days had passed since Thranduil had been carried back to Mirkwood. For four days, Elara had barely left his side. She remained in the healing chamber through every uncertain hour, watching the healers fight the poison in his blood. She slept only when exhaustion overcame her, usually in the chair beside his bed. On the fourth morning, Thranduil finally stirred. His eyes slowly opened. For a moment, he seemed disoriented—until he noticed the hand wrapped around his. Elara was asleep beside him. His expression softened. Weakly, his fingers tightened around hers. The movement woke her. Elara lifted her head, and the moment she saw his open eyes, she froze. “Thranduil?” “You’re awake.” His voice was weak. “So it would seem.” Relief flooded her face, quickly followed by irritation. “You nearly died.” “And yet, here I am.” “Do you find this amusing?” “Your anger is somewhat reassuring.” Elara glared at him, but tears were already gathering in her eyes. She turned away before he could see them. His fingers tightened gently around hers. She looked back at him. For a moment, neither spoke. Then Elara slowly pulled her hand away. “Why did you come after me?” “You were in danger.” “You didn’t even wait for the scouts.” Thranduil’s expression shifted. “The healer told me,” she continued. “You went after me alone.” “There was no time.” “You told me you wanted me gone, Thranduil. Then you nearly died trying to bring me back.” Silence. “Which one am I supposed to believe?” “You should not have gone alone.” Her expression hardened. “That’s not an answer.” “It is the only one I have.” Elara stared at him, hurt replacing her anger. “You would rather bleed for me than be honest with me.” Thranduil said nothing. Elara stood and turned toward the door. After only a few steps, she stopped. Slowly, she looked back over her shoulder. “I have feelings for you, Thranduil.” For once, his carefully controlled expression broke. His lips parted, but no answer came. Elara held his gaze for a moment before turning toward the door again. “And unlike you…” she whispered, “I’m not afraid to admit it.” Then she walked away without looking back. Thranduil remained silent, staring after her. Four days she had refused to leave his side. And within minutes of waking, he had let her walk away. Yet one sentence refused to leave him. “I have feelings for you, Thranduil.” #Thranduil#FantasyRomance#TolkienTok#fypp#TheHobbit
