TYRANNY & PERPETUAL CORRUPTION & ABUSES UNDER DUTERTE FAMILY RULE IN DAVAO
😈😈😈 🇨🇳 🇨🇳 🇨🇳
For over three decades, the Duterte family has maintained a political stronghold over Davao City. Their 35-year rule is often characterized by an "iron-fist" approach, instilling both fear and submission among many Davaoeños. Although the Dutertes promised to eradicate corruption and illegal drugs, their governance has been marred by accusations of violating the very laws they vowed to uphold. The Duterte dynasty exemplifies the key issues of entrenched political dynasties and authoritarian leadership—prolonged power, concentration of authority among family members, alleged human rights violations (in particular, crimes against humanity), and suppression of dissent. Beneath the facade of discipline and order lies a darker legacy of fear, control, and impunity.
Moreover, despite Davao’s repeated experiences with severe flooding and the displacement of thousands of families, the local government’s ₱51 billion budget allocation for flood control projects reportedly remained unutilized. Since the Dutertes assumed exclusive control of the mayoral office, no city hospitals or universities have been built for less privileged Davaoeños. This negligence highlights the widening gap between political promises and the actual experiences of ordinary citizens.
During Sara Duterte's tenure as mayor, Davao City accumulated over ₱2.6 billion in confidential and intelligence funds (CIF), significantly surpassing the allocations of larger or wealthier local government units like Quezon City, Manila, Makati, and Cebu City.
Lawmakers, and public prosecutors have questioned the rationale behind maintaining multi hundred million peso confidential funds annually. They point out that Davao City has generally experienced relative peace and stability compared to other parts of Mindanao historically plagued by severe armed conflict or active insurgencies.
The Dutertes’ strengthened alliance with China—in the context of increasing tensions in the West Philippine Sea—raises further questions about loyalty, sovereignty, and the true priorities of their governance.
