@ayuh_maine: Before Maine was "empty," it was never meant to be crowded in the first place. Long before tourists started clogging up 95 North every summer, the Wabanaki Confederacy knew this land better than any GPS ever will. "People of the dawnland" — first place in the entire country to see the sunrise, and they built their whole way of life around that rhythm. Fishing the coastlines, hunting the interior, moving with the seasons instead of fighting them. That's the part people miss. Northern Maine isn't empty because nothing could live here. It's empty because this land was never meant to be tamed, packed, or paved over. Real Mainers have always understood that. Slow living isn't a trend up here, it's survival instinct passed down for centuries. Bangor, Portland, Lewiston, the north woods — different worlds, same blood. Respect the land or stay home. 🌲🇺🇸

when people speak of the earlier peoples in America why do they always feel the need to romanticize them? they talk about them like no people on the planet haven't gone through the Stone Age? when modern people showed up to a new world, it was new to them. 🤯
