It claims to be over 900 years old and the oldest pub in Wales. But it’s the pub’s incredibly dark history and legends that make this place so fascinating. The upper floor is said to have once been used as a courtroom, with condemned prisoners reportedly hanged from a beam above the staircase. Stories claim that around 180 people met their fate here over the centuries, although much of the Skirrid’s gruesome history is a mixture of documented history and local legend!
