@punchsucks0: What people saw when Punch was a baby is not what they are seeing now. Back then, young females were carrying him, grooming him, and staying close to him. A lot of that was allomothering behavior toward a baby. Now Punch is a juvenile, and those relationships have changed. In this video, his friend is resting with her family. Punch keeps trying to get her to leave that space and come with him, but she chooses to stay where she is. Eventually, Punch realizes she is not leaving and walks away. Nanaka is a separate example of why people should not assume relationships from infancy will stay the same forever. She had healthy social relationships as a baby too, but as she and the others got older, those relationships changed and she became more isolated. That is why I keep saying being able to move around the troop is not the same as being socially integrated. The real question is what relationships Punch is actually maintaining now that he is older. #JapaneseMacaque #PunchTheMacaque #PrimateBehavior #MacaqueBehavior #AnimalBehavior

Even if Punch had a mom she wouldnt be coddling him the way the Disney momsd want. They think that his momd intervene in every single scolding and fight other monkeys on his behalf or that the other monkysd all be afraid to scold him if he had 'someone protecting him' Maybe if hismom was high ranking, but if she wasnt, he'd be reated exactly the same as now, the lowest ranking in there so everyones whipping boy and his mom woudnt do anything about it. Shed also ignore him throwing tantrums because hes simply not a baby anymore and he needs to toughen up at some point. The newborn babies are more independent and more stable than he will ever be and theyre barely 6 months old. Punch is more than a year old and he acts like he's 5 months old wanting to be coddled and spoiled and carried like a newborn.

By macaque standards, Punch has completely outgrown the infant stage (which lasts a maximum of 12 months). The other young female macaques no longer perceive him as an infant, so they no longer cut him slack for minor transgressions or feel the need to shield him from harsher scolding—something he must learn to accept with calm submission. He is now expected to participate in activities like grooming others and to know his place during feeding (observing social boundaries and not pushing ahead of others, given his low rank). Furthermore, he has simply become too heavy to be carried by the other macaques, who are only slightly older and not yet fully adult themselves. Added to this is the fact that there are now six new babies in the enclosure taking his place as the young females learn maternal skills.
