@sachistorymuseum: October 6th is Mad Hatter Day! This day celebrates the fictional character, The Mad Hatter, from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” which was first published in 1865. This day matches the label on the Mad Hatter’s hat band that reads “In this style 10/6,” which meant the top hat cost ten shillings and sixpence in England. For today, Jared letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut), made about 130 years ago, from the Lewis Winter Collection. The print depicts a top hat. However, with the Death by Natural Causes exhibit just a couple blocks away from the Sacramento History Museum in Old Sacramento, we thought we’d discuss the origins of the Mad Hatter and how beaver felt top hats were made. Make it a double adventure! Show your Death by Natural Causes receipt at the Sacramento History Museum and receive 50% off admission. Plus, take your Museum receipt to Death by Natural Causes for 50% off admission there, too! #SacHistoryMuseum #madhatter #idioms #tophat #museumtok
