Never.. NEVER, use soap on cast iron. It ruins the seasoning. water and a brilliant pad before it cools completely after cooking.

the proper way to clean cast iron is first little water, put it on the heat to soften up whatever is cooked into it. then dump out the water pour in salt and scrub it with salt and a little oil. rinse out the salt, reheat the pan and apply a little oil.

Modern dish soap does not harm cast iron. Soap that contains lye like all soaps did 80 years ago will destroy it. One of those old rules that no longer apply.

Good idea, but I don’t use soap on my cast-iron and I don’t use that on my cast-iron either because minor in great shape you don’t need that for cast-iron

Mine are crusty and I will never wash them. I just do a little scrape, wipe and a little bit of extra oil.
