@jesscreelman: Endometriosis girlies, I want to hear from you 🫶🏼 If you’ve had surgery for endometriosis, what was your experience like? What did your surgery involve, how was recovery, and is there anything you wish you knew beforehand? I’m at the stage of figuring out what my next steps might look like, so hearing other people’s experiences would honestly help so much ❤️ #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #bowelresection #womenshealth #gynecology
so I would ask a clarifying question on that MRI and make sure it's not the one where you have to put gel into your vagina and your rectum. because those are quite miserable from what I've heard. the surgery itself, mine was 8 hours I believe, also stage four, I did not find it bad and I didn't find it hard to recover from. all I needed was Tylenol and Aleve for the pain for a few days. I had my bowel resected, my organs were fused to my abdominal wall, all kinds of hijinks in there. but it was totally fine and I've been in complete remission from endometriosis since that surgery back in 2021. I do unfortunately have other medical problems that are making me disabled, but at least the endometriosis part is completely taken care of and is staying in remission at this point anyways.

So i cant speak/compare as far as staging. Because i had stage 1, but for you and for anyone, dont feel obligated to stick to whoever is diagnosing you. Seek a NAPRO, seek MIGs, get as many opinions on surgical planning as possible

That sounds right, they would have a GI doctor come in with them for your surgery. The unknowns are so nerve wracking, thank you for sharing!

I just had surgery for the first time for endo on 09/14, my mri showed rectal and colon lesions and whens she actually went in she didn’t see that. She found endo on my pelvis, bladder and intrauterine adhesions. I have my first post Op appointment next week to ask why it was seen on mri but not in my body? I was very confused but doing well so far at least!

Hey Friendo! I have stage 4 DIE. I was diagnosed in 2018 via excision, had an MRI in 2019 that did show endo on my sigmoid colon and uterus had fused together. I was supposed to have surgery at the end of 2019 and it got delayed to March 2020. The world shut down, and I was able to get pregnant without surgery. I ended up getting excision surgery done in May 2024 with an excision surgeon. We had spoke about the possibility of needing a colostomy bag. She operated on me for 9 hours and needed 4 other surgeons to help her. 2 were colorectal surgeons. They did a bowel resection and shaved part of my sigmoid colon to release it from my uterus. By the time I had my surgery, the Endo has grown into the muscle of the sigmoid colon, and straight through to my vaginal canal. My renal system failed during surgery, and my right kidney/ureter would not function, and I needed a stent to help it heal and function properly. You are more than welcome to DM me.

no experience with this specifically. but have had spent most of my life also seeing a gynecologist and all I can say is ask ALL the questions. I spent many years being too shy to ask my MD questions and using google too undestand what the hell was going on with my body. no one will advocate for you except you. make a list of questions and don't be afraid to share your fears concerns. wish you all the best in whatever path of treatment you choose

Ive been fighting with my doctor who is no longer my doctor ( he wasn’t taking my health seriously so I stopped seeing him ) for two years now to diagnose me with Endometriosis and he refused. Put me on a wait list for a gynaecologist which could take 5 years. I have severe menstrual cramps that hit a level 10 and have to call off work when its that severe. Everyone I know including nurses are telling me all my symptoms point to Endo but no way of knowing without testing. Sending thoughts your way as you navigate your way through this!

Had an MRI done this summer and found out the endo had fused my bowels to my ovaries and have kissing ovaries as well. Am currently waiting back word from the specialist for consultation for surgery. I understand your fear, I feel the same way, trying so hard not to think of it 😪

I had an MRI to confirm it and I have it in my lower colon as well ( which surgery will be extremely risky) could end up with a colostomy bag 😢 trying to avoid surgery for now ( but when I do have to have surgery I will need a bowel surgery as well )

Yup, a general surgeon (GI doc) would have to assist her in the OR if there’s any bowel involvement. I had two similar surgeries at the IWK. They ended up having to take my ovaries and put me into surgical menopause. So make it clear you want to keep one if at all possible so you don’t have to do HRT. It was a brutal recovery to be honest. Message me any time.

I just got diagnosed with endometriosis in August through an MRI, mine is on my bowels as well. I also have 2 endometriomas on my right ovary. My doctor told me gyno is a 2/4 yr waitlist. Do you take any medications for yours ? Mine is trying to put me on birth control (which I’m against) or Aspen-Dienogest to stop the spread. Have you taken anything for yours to (stop the spread ?)🫠🫠 wish NS had more endo specialists to help us.

I had an endometrioma removed and the first 3-4 days of recovery was awful. Needed help in and out of bed. After that it was smooth sailing.

I have stage 4 endo and had a softball sized endomentrioma removed removed in 2020.. first 3-4 days were BRUTAL, mostly because of all the gas that gets stuck in your shoulders that they use when the blow up your stomach to do the surgery laparoscopically.. I had to be helped in and out of bed and to the bathroom etc. Mine was inside my ovary so she actually took the time to remove it and save my ovary since my wife and I were planning to expand our family. I also had some of the endo burned off while she was in there as well.

Going through something similar. My uterus is the size of a 6 month pregnancy and multiple fibroids the side of grape fruits. They also think I could have endo or adeno but not sure how they even will diagnose me with it? Can they tell in an ultrasound?

I was finally diagnosed with stage 4 endo & adeno last fall - took over a decade for someone to take me seriously about the pain. By the time they figured it out the endo had embedded itself into my bowels, covered over half my rectum, and pinch off my ureter tube so much it was putting me into kidney failure. I had to get stents put in to save my kidneys, did excision surgery last November to remove as much endo as possible and to fix my ureter tubes and kidney, then had a fallopian tube removed in July. I need a full hysterectomy but I want kids so I’m giving IVF a go now. After that I’ll be getting a hysterectomy, a bowel resection & the tip of my v cut off 🫠😵💫 being a girl isn’t fun..
