Zhang is one of the most common Chinese surnames, along with Wang, Li, Liu, Chen, Huang, Zhao, Wu, etc. Since academic papers usually cite references using the first author’s surname followed by et al., it’s pretty common to see repeated citations like Zhang et al., Wang et al., Li et al., Chen et al., and so on.
