for anybody else who ain’t got no ableton, just use the formula 50:youdaw’smaximumpan=herpannumber:x where x is the equivalent of your daw’s pan to this ableton pan example. I use Logic, the maximum is 64, and if I wanna know how much her 40 is in my daw, i just do x=(64 40)/50=51,2 or maybe 25? just (64 25)/50=32

Spot on! Only issue with the panning I see is it’s very song arrangement specific. After years of mixing collegiate and pro a cappella, I’ve come to realize that if you want a wide set of main vocals (lead plus harms) in instrumental based music, the arrangement needs to NOT be wide. Meaning if you have a bunch of synths (mainly pop music these days) or “stereo instruments”, keep them in the middle and let your vocals be hard panned all the way if they’re doubled. If they’re not doubled and it’s a single take, those can be placed in the “in between”. Vice versa if your instrumental is full of mono elements. Pan those hard left right and use the vocals as the gap fillers for the stereo spectrum.
