They have just been getting better at repairing and rehabbing for these injuries. Before this was a career ending injury. Now as long your surgery goes well and you everything heals good. If you do the rehab and continue doing what you were doing before and build the training back up a lot of these guys have a chance to play again.

Generic recovery timelines are catered to the average person. Elite athletes with unlimited resources are a different story, plus genetics is a large variable.
