@s0larrai: This means EVERYTHING to me. & I will BLOCKING anybody who thinks they can counteract this subject with rubbish about west Africans people being ignorant towards Caribbeans. I don’t want to hear it. I’m aware, that’s not the subject today. The subject today is THIS. So keep it quiet & listen…open your ears & your heart & understand how upsetting this subject is. It’s a very sensitive topic. Know yourselves before you come in my comments. #damilolataylor #nigeria #westafrica #jamaica #caribbean
They ridiculed my name so much I’ve changed it legally now, hearing my dead name actually makes me so angry. Caribbean kids were HORRID growing up.

Just made a Reddit post about this. They all denied it and said that the Africans started it because we apparently looked down on them???

And they wonder why everyone claimed to be Jamaican back in the days. Not because they wanted to, but because they actually wanted to get through a normal day without being made fun of. Till this day.

I grew up with such a strong mindset but I was bullied. My name is also Damilola and when he died, it became relentless. I remember someone retorted to me to shut my mouth unless I want to d*e like he did just because we shared the same name. But I thank God I stood strong cos I love my culture though I was born and grew up in London.

Carribeans we need to fix up I’m fed up it’s truly embarrassing! This is why some Africans are treating us the way we do I’m glad as a carribean I had African friends when I was growing up in 90’s in 00’s. I loved all races and even the carribean bullied me because I wasn’t fully from Jamaica. We need to do a public apology a public press conference needs to be held from someone in the carribean community. We needs to fix this because we are looking like eediots accross the world and not all of us are like this 😢

I got jumped by this one jamaican guy and his older sister they were both late teens and I was literally 11/12 for being somali as a kid. I ran into them not long ago and he apologised to me and cried it was quite a deep conversation he explained how he was raised poorly and he experienced dv at home. I pray it doesnt eat up at him and I genuinely pray that we all unite and work together

Till today, I won’t use my African name, I use my English middle name because of my Caribbean class mates. They made such fun of it I used to basically near have panic attacks if my name was being called in class. It was relentless, a lot of these things still has not left me in my 30s.

Not only west Africans were subjected to bullying as long as you were black and African, your surname alone was the starting of harassment. It’s actually sad

As a Caribbean man I’ve been saying this because it’s real when I look back & you realise what it was like. I agree 100% majority of the time it starts from within the home/ family. It’s anti black, coloursim, anti Afro! It’s real talk I know so many West Africans in school even up to adulthood that have lied & said they were Caribbean! Ignorance.

I used to pretend to be half Caribbean out of fear and self protection. I used to practice dancehall songs until I got it perfect to the point where that was the only music I listened to. I was still bullied for being dark skin and not having long “coolie” hair but I don’t have a traditional African name so I kinda had it easy. I watched how Caribbeans used to bully African girls with African names. There was a girl called Boluwatife and she literally changed her name to Grace now because of the hardcore bullying she experienced. The Caribbeans would try to jump her multiple times, rip her ponytail out and fling it around, go to her house and mockingly scream her name outside. Mann the things I’ve seen/experienced is WILD. Being African in school was torture. I’ve never seen/experienced this type of bullying even from white people. They internalised the racism they experienced and completely RAN with it. So to see Caribbeans listening to Afrobeats, eating African food and using African lingo today shocks me each and every time. They used to treat us like uncivilised dirty bush animals. They were our oppressors. That’s the truth.

My Ghanaian-Jamaican mum opened up to me about how she was bullied by Jamaicans in secondary school, she was born in the UK but moved to Ghana later on in life so she had picked up an accent, it was so bad that she lost it. She’s 56 btw, and it still bothers her till this day.
