@mimwaj: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." — 1 John 2:15 (ESV) The full passage in 1 John 2:15-17 adds that everything in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes from the world and not from God. What "The World" Means • Not creation: The Bible does not tell you to hate the physical earth, nature, or people. God loves the people of the world (John 3:16). • A sinful system: It means the selfish human system of pride, greed, and living apart from God. • Wrong focus: As explained by JD Greear Ministries, it means letting lesser things take the place of God as your ultimate trust. • Idolatry: Eternal Perspective Ministries notes that this involves making status, pop culture, or possessions more important than God .
