@wilkinsonsrunningwild: Mothers dealing with cancer shouldn’t have to worry about losing their maternity leave on top of everything they’re already dealing with! @mummysstar are campaigning to help change the legislation in England to allow mothers to pause or defer their maternity leave while recovering from cancer treatment. They estimate this small change will help make approx 750-800 mothers, newborns and families lives per year easier at the toughest time ever ❤️ #cancertreatment #saveourbond #mummysstar #cancercharity #pregnancy
I converted my mat leave to shared parental leave when I had a severe birth injury and needed major surgery with prolonged recovery. I was on sick leave for 12 weeks getting paid and my husband was off with the children. It didn’t buy more time but meant we were financially better off. I then went back onto parental leave when he went back to work

Not only the time but you should be on sick leave for cancer treatment which is higher pay than maternity leave

Holly, you can only pause maternity leave in the Republic of Ireland, in the North of Ireland it's still not allowed as the legislation is very much the same or similar GB law. It's absolutely ridiculous and needs changed 😏

Lost 5 months of my maternity leave due to chemo/surgery and radio! Thankfully I then went on to sick leave but still pay was awful!

The whole system is wrong- in so many ways! After losing my husband to neck and head cancer- which spread to his lungs, done all the radio 6 sessions a week for 5 weeks. From start of radio to him passing was 8 weeks! Couldn’t get any help because he had savings from inheritance, even though he worked self employed for years and paid thousands into the system he couldn’t get anything! It’s a joke! We are so behind on helping people with cancer! Sending love 🥰

If you are sick and have annual leave you get your annual leave back so should be the same for cancer and mat leave x

just crazy. I'm in France and have to admit I don't know how it is here. It's not the same, but my grandson was 3 weeks in the NICU, and that time was added to maternity leave, minus the 3 days that is usual in hospital here.

I started chemo at 16 weeks pregnant, I applied for uc straight away and pip 3 months later. Impossible to work whilst having 3 kids, one being a newborn and active cancer treatment.
