@dra_says: Many sleeping tablets work by broadly sedating the brain. That can bring on sleep, but it often comes with next-day grogginess, and with some of them, tolerance and dependence over time. Daridorexant works differently. The wake switch Deep in the brain, a small area called the hypothalamus releases chemicals called orexins. Their job is to keep you awake and alert. In many people with chronic insomnia, this wake system stays too active at night, so the brain won't switch off even when you're exhausted. Blocking the signal Daridorexant is a dual orexin receptor antagonist (DORA). It blocks both orexin receptors, so the "stay awake" signal can't get through. Rather than sedating you, it quietens the drive to stay awake and lets your natural sleep processes take over. Why that matters • In trials, it helped people fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and function better the next day • No significant withdrawal or rebound insomnia was seen when stopping • It's designed to wear off by morning, though some people still feel drowsy the next day What to know • Common side effects include headache, tiredness and dizziness • Rarely, people experience vivid dreams, sleep paralysis or brief hallucinations as they fall asleep • It isn't suitable for people with narcolepsy, and it interacts with some medicines and alcohol • It's prescription-only and isn't the first step Where it fits NICE recommends it for insomnia lasting 3 months or more, when CBT for insomnia has been tried and hasn't worked, or isn't available or suitable. CBT-I is still the first-line treatment, because it targets the habits and thought patterns that keep insomnia going. Insomnia is a real medical condition, and treatment has moved on. If sleep has been a struggle for months, it's worth a conversation with a clinician about what's driving it.

Why does getting a good night’s sleep feel like it requires a chemistry degree and a medicine cabinet? 😂 Whatever happened to just closing our eyes and going to sleep? 😴

While these videos are informative, When I go to the GP and ask about these things they look at me like I’m a D*ug seeker and I don’t get anything prescribed.

why are doctors so reluctant to give out sleep medication in the first place? ive been diagnosed insomniac for years and theway the docs would do everything to avoid prescribing anything you'd think they were personally funding it

I take melatonin every night. 0 side effects. I'll never go back to any other meds. A blackout blind, melatonin and a set bed time did me wonders

I struggle with ADHD and have chronic insomnia. This has worked brilliantly, it stopped the subliminal stress and worry about being tired the next day
