@draizident: HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in the world. The problem is not simply getting HPV. In many people, the immune system clears the infection naturally. The concern is when HPV persists in the body. Certain high-risk types can cause changes in cells over time, which may eventually lead to cancer. HPV is responsible for the vast majority of cervical cancers and can also cause: • Penile cancer • Anal cancer • Vaginal cancer • Vulvar cancer • Some cancers of the throat and mouth And HPV doesn’t only affect women. Men can get HPV too, and men can also develop HPV-related cancers. The good news is that HPV vaccination can significantly reduce the risk of infection with the HPV types that cause many of these cancers. So yes, boys and girls, men and women can benefit from HPV prevention. Get vaccinated when eligible, practise safer sex, and women should still go for recommended cervical cancer screening even after vaccination.
