Questioning that is kinda offensive for all the stuff you have in your day. Almost everything is made from china and that does not mean is bad quality, if you want quality you pay for it, even from china (still lower price).

My humble opinion as a Chinese living in the west: Growing up, way before the China ‘glow-up’, there’s been a trend in the domestic consumer market that products from the west are premium, it’s a symbol of social status if you’re able to afford them, and ppl are drawn to own these products, when there’s a demand, there’s a supply, so copycats & knockoffs appear. But the past few years there have been more and more great domestic brands emerging, and they are able to offer both original and beautiful designs. Today, I buy most of my clothes in China, order them online and ship them over. The same quality and design would cost me three times more, easily, if I were to order them here in Sweden, and I rarely find a second person wearing it here!😑

I was a year ago in China, they have fantastic national brands for all sorts of products. I think the problem is the blindness and prejudice we have in the west about China, we still associate them with copying stuff instead of creating and designing it. But once you're there you see that this is partially true, they produce and sell cheap stuff. They also produce a lot of copies, but they are also at the top of innovation and creativeness, to a point that it is evident they have surpassed Europe in this regard already. I think what China attempts is to cater to everyone, that's why they choose to still produce cheap and copied stuff, but at the same time they're innovating and creating amazing new stuff with great quality. I think that what we fail to see behind that is that they're really business men, they're not limiting themselves to some sort of product, they're keep on expanding by producing and creating products from all quality and price ranges. In Europe design of luxury goods is still very strong and some countries like France and Italy live of the reputation they have built in this regard, but then at the end actual production takes places somewhere else or even if done locally even then it might fall in the hands of Chinese craftsmen working in Milan. I think that if Europe wants to keep up with the times, more riskm must be taken and the continent has to strive for innovation, but also Europeans must be willing to invest in their own craftsmanship.

The question is when the meaning of "Made in China" will shift in people's minds, so that they view it as a mark of quality rather than associating it with knock-offs or poor-quality mass production.

See the thing is, when do you see a completely 100% original design anymore?! It’s not a thing really. You can innovate the leather design and make it cross crossed like BV. But didn’t they used to do that with pie crust?! Didn’t some originally make a bag that was horizontal and opened at the top and had two small handles and one big one?!

In Chinese culture, they don't recognize "brands" and are very sharing because they have lived in poverty for centuries. For example, when someone sells noodles on the side of the road, they invite other people to sell noodles too. don't see it as a rival but as a community

Hahaha China has actually hired a lot of European designers, Xiaomi for instance hired ex Porsche’s designer Fabian Schmölz among many other designers. Thats probably y u felt Xiaomi car resembles Porsche so much
