@washingtonpost: Christa Pike, who was sentenced to death in Tennessee for her role in a brutal 1995 murder, remains in critical condition several days after she was hospitalized following a botched execution, her attorney said Sunday. Stephen Ferrell told CNN that his client is still on a ventilator as doctors continue trying to clear two doses of pentobarbital, the lethal injections she survived, from her system. Ferrell said that he has not seen Pike and that she has not spoken as far as he is aware. Lawyers for Pike said Friday that she had been placed on a ventilator and was unconscious. Pike was convicted for her role in the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer. Pike and two other teens — her boyfriend and another girl — lured Slemmer into the woods in Knoxville, where they tortured and killed her. Pike, who was 18 at the time of the murder, has been imprisoned for more than 30 years and would have been the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years.

So if one is on death row they do not automatically put you on a DNR order?

I dislike the death penalty for the most part. I have a complicated relationship with it because I listen to a lot of true crime and with people like Ted Bundy I feel it’s kinda deserved and those people would be murdered in prison regardless, but I also have so many issues because of the amount of innocent people on death row. But if you’re gonna do it I’m just gonna say that firing is a lot more humane than lethal injection to me. You have 5 guys, and one has a wax slug instead of a real bullet loaded so the officers can rest easier as they could’ve had a wax slug instead of a real bullet. But you then have the person who is to be executed at short distance away and all 5 officers fire at the same time while aiming for the heart. Blood stops flowing within 2-15 seconds and the body goes into unconsciousness soon after. And shock will probably take over so they don’t feel much. The only way to execute someone more humanely is the guillotine but some say that doesn’t match America’s national ethos which is why it isn’t used.

Just reminded that the strongest argument to abolish the death penalty is this nonsense. Just think about the tens of thousands of dollars of staff time that is being spent on lawyers and doctors and everything else all because we didn’t just give her life in prison.

The phlebotomist and nursing staff at my local hospital won’t try more than three times per technician or whatever because they said it’s assault more than three times.

She did not survive all because of her blood condition, the reason why the lethal injection didn’t work was because one of the three drugs it consist of was given by another country, but because they don’t give it to us anymore we’re still trying to find a proper substitute

So they asked for a different method AND THEY DENYED IT?! It’s not like she was even asking for life in prison, just not the lethal injection. Yeah I’m sorry Tennessee has botched this shit

weird they didn't just go with electrocution, as I believe those are the only two still legal methods in Tennessee

there's a lot of back and forth in the comments about the personal feelings about and morality of the death penalty but I really think it's an easy subject. As long as you can honestly say that you believe no single innocent person has ever or will ever be executed in this country it's fine if you believe in the death penalty. Everyone else should oppose it

The doctors who agreed to do this are also going to be mentally scarred for life. In the bane of retribution we are creating more victims. This is one reason that I oppose the death penalty.

In order to actually tell people the whole story you have to give all the facts and not leave parts out. You can still portray yourself as unbiased with dialect choice but not by leaving out important information. He also halted all executions in Tennessee for the rest of the year so that there can be a full investigation done by an outside team, and she refused to drink and eat for a large period of time before she was injected, and she also states before the injection that she didn’t think it would work because of her conditions, and she requested that they hang her if they cannot perform the lethal injection.

I don’t agree with the sentence. I don’t think I should be allowed like I don’t think that’s if you’ve been punish someone because they merch someone you’re just offering them and this I don’t think that’s gonna help the family like if certain certain people would do RM the dead they do not have any motion because logically they’re like some of them have no motion. They can’t feel motion. It’s like some medical issue with their brain or something, but those people even other people that who feel emotion isn’t it better for them to regret it every day of their life if I did and just kill them and just like oh we’re done the families still gonna hurt they’re not gonna get their answer so I feel like it’s better that they live and they talk about it in therapy every day and talk about why they did it happen but people are like no we should just killed him and that’s the end of it but if you’re gonna go kill someone on that sentence go do it properly and if she actually has medical conditions for her feelings are smaller and y’all didn’t pay attention then I’m sorry to see. Is that fault?

i dont get how people dont understand that "cruel and unusual punishment" is disallowed for a reason. this woman is evil, but we can't allow the state to have the right to act unethically even if it *feels* justified in this case. please think about what impact this kind of thing has on a larger scale for even one second before you comment about dnrs or whatever. put her down, sure, whatever, not making a d penalty argument here. there's a reason it has to be done ethically.

I think my biggest problem w the death penalty is that the people who defend it are just as bloodthirsty as the people who receive it, as these comments so wonderfully demonstrate

Doesn’t this lady also have a ton of trauma and mental health issues to the point it was actually being debated in court if she should go to a mental health institution instead of jail and she got the death penalty duo to some new laws and getting rid of a few old ones
