@chasing.crystal: Dere Castle in Kurdistan! 🏍️🏰 Dere Castle was constructed during the first millennium BC by the ancient Assyrians. It was later rebuilt during the reign of Mir Mustafa. The castle was used from 1800 to 1838 AD to monitor the trade routes between Soran and Iran and the Ottoman empire in Turkey. According to locals, it was inhabited until the early 20th century. It was later converted into an Iraqi government military base and now it is in ruins. This castle sure got a lot of good use throughout history! Crystal saw its current use of being a backdrop for livestock grazing the area. Who knows what its next use will be?
