HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA 🇺🇸 — A convenience store owner is facing federal charges after investigators accused him of buying more than $500,000 in food-stamp benefits at roughly half their value and using them to purchase merchandise for resale. Al Amin, 52, allegedly worked with others to obtain SNAP recipients' EBT cards in exchange for cash, then used the benefits to purchase large quantities of products, including energy drinks and candy. Federal investigators reportedly traced 613 retail orders involving approximately 448 EBT cards to a Hollywood address. The purchases totaled about $442,683. An undercover USDA investigator also allegedly exchanged cards containing more than $64,000 in benefits for approximately $29,474 in cash. Prosecutors say some of the merchandise was used to stock Amin's convenience store, while additional goods were sold to other store owners. Amin faces two federal conspiracy charges involving the unauthorized use of SNAP benefits and wire fraud. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison across the two charges. However, these are allegations contained in a criminal complaint, and Amin is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. #AlAmin #FloridaNews #SNAPFraud #FoodStamps #japd
