But if you’re hydrated before your massage, it helps us work out tension easier since your fascia will be in its most proper state. When we talk about fascia, we want fascia to be in it’s gel-like state, because that’s how it optimally functions. Without proper water intake, your fascia is not in the gel-like consistency that it should be. It’s a little bit more dense without proper hydration, meaning that when we try to work out adhesions / knots during your massage, it’s going to be more difficult. So simply drinking even like two cups of water, will make a difference compared to nothing. But I do understand it’s hard. At times, I realize I didn’t drink enough water and I just wait till after my massage because I don’t want to use the bathroom in the middle of my 90 minute massage. If all fails and you don’t hydrate before your massage, obviously AFTER is the key I’ve known of clients to feel ill or get headaches after their massage because they decided to drink coffee or dehydrating beverages before / after their session. So if you take care of yourself properly after your massage, it will make your massage last longer.
