BREAKING: 17-year-old Oudtshoorn teenager found murdered days before her 18th birthday Seventeen-year-old Sharuney Harvey from Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape was found murdered on Saturday night, 3 October 2026, inside her boyfriend’s house in Kliplokasie on Volmoed farm, near Oudtshoorn. She had been due to turn 18 on Wednesday, 7 October. Police responded to the scene at approximately 9:40 pm and discovered the teenager lying on a bed with head injuries. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene. According to her aunt, Angelina Botha, Sharuney had visited her father and stepmother earlier that Saturday with her boyfriend. The boyfriend later told the family that Sharuney and her stepmother had argued during the visit, after which he took her to his home. Later that evening the family received the news of her death. Both the boyfriend and the stepmother were taken in for questioning. An autopsy revealed that Sharuney had suffered multiple blows to the head with a blunt object. Marks around her neck indicated she had also been strangled. Police confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old man in connection with the murder. He was expected to appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 6 October. There has been no confirmation that the stepmother was formally charged. Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Christopher Spies confirmed that a murder investigation was launched following the discovery. Sharuney’s family described her as a beautiful young woman with a gentle heart. She had left school in Grade 8 and would have been in matric this year.
