URGENT | Kraven | ATLANTA, GA | Medical Case | A0061405693 Today, while Kraven was under anesthesia for surgery, the veterinary team discovered that his jaw is actually fractured, possibly from a gunshot wound. The repair is beyond what the shelter can perform, so he would need to leave on a medical waiver and receive treatment elsewhere. This explains so much. For weeks, I have said that I believed some of the behavior we were seeing from Kraven was pain-related. Underneath all of it, he is a very, very good dog. I have watched this dog seek affection, rest his head in a lap, offer his paw, walk beautifully on leash, and choose to trust people despite everything he has apparently endured. And now we know he has been doing all of that with a broken jaw. I know this is an impossible ask. I know this may be a lost cause. But I owe it to him to exhaust every avenue I possibly can before giving up. Kraven needs someone willing to look at him and say, “You’ve been through enough. I’ll help you from here.” He needs an adopter who can take him on a medical waiver, have him evaluated by an outside veterinarian or specialist, and give him the chance to finally live without pain. His dog assessment has shown that a home with another dog may be possible with thoughtful, slow introductions, but right now the most important thing is getting him out and into the hands of someone who can pursue the care he needs. I have advocated for a lot of dogs, but Kraven has gotten under my skin in a way I can’t really explain. I genuinely believe there is an incredible dog underneath the pain, fear, and trauma. I desperately want him to get the opportunity to show someone who he is when he finally feels good. Please share him. Please tag rescues, experienced adopters, veterinary professionals, or anyone who may be willing and financially able to take this on.
