@alisafjohnson: spinal cord injury friends what’s your level of injury and how much dump do you have? #wheelchair#spinalcordinjury#paraplegic#accessibility#disability
i was for sure gonna say a new cushion, and something that you can lean your pelvis back in? and a taller backrest with more contour to keep you upright! i also think the backrest needs to be forward more? like maybe the frame of your chair is just too long for your body?

for me, I have the bottom of my back rest about 3 inches above my buttcrack. It's also reclined about 10-15°. The bottom hits the apex of my lumbar curve, then as it goes higher leans back. That gives me really aggressive lumbar support, which I need for my lumbar hypolordosis and Thoracic kyphpsis. My posture looks pretty similar to yours

I loveee the color of your chair!! They should’ve kept the dump and changed the angle of your backrest hardware or the canes/poles it’s attached to. That way your foot plate and positioning won’t be affected, can keep the dump, and still have your backrest push you more forward/upright. Straighter backrest + dump will kinda wedge you into your chair and give more support. I’m sorry they only made one adjustment and didn’t fix anything else 🤦♀️🫠

a little better but something's still off , it kinda looks like the lumbar support isn't right . I feel like a new backrest could make a big difference. the footplate thing makes sense but it's annoying that the seating specialist didn't adjust it as I'm not surprised the foot placement would be thrown off

C7-T1 and I have significant dump- I need to go back and look at my wheelchair order and see the exact measurements for you- but it’s the best I’ve been seated. I have never had luck with seating specialists and learned along the way what worked best for me. I can post other angles if that’s helpful for you! 💖

It definitely looks better getting your chair adjusted is so annoying because you change one thing then you find out at like four other things need to be changed. 🤦♀️

I'm a c5 quadriplegic, if you have no trunk control, it's best to keep the dump and only adjust the backrest. It keeps you in the chair versus feeling like you're floating.

As seating professional myself I would've kept 1.5"-2" of dump. Adjusted the backrest more forward so you don't have such a open back angle. The dump is primarily for like you said poor core control. As long as you feel stable in your chair and not falling forward/ sideways it's fine. The footrest needs to be raised enough to support your feet without raising your thighs and putting too much pressure on your bottom/ butt. Your feet hanging will cut off circulation and cause swelling in your feet. Make sure when they change the seat dump you can still do transfers easily and or reach/ work from the chair. The footrest is adjusted by two set screws behind the front tubes if you or your family would like to change it. It will need to be adjusted again once you get a new cushion.

I think if you adjust the low back, how much room do you have behind your knees?

Keep the dump. I am not going by looks. I really haven’t ever seen you before but I am a T6 paraplegic. I have no core and I really really like dump in my chair. I’ve been paralyzed for 30 years.

Keeps us updated! I have the same issue going on. But you definitely look more upright in your chair now with the less dump. I also don’t like my jay cushion either

I feel like your knees need to come up more. When I lose weight again im trying to have them completely change my foot placement. Anyone I know who’s been paralyzed for a while has their knees and feet up higher which causes a natural dump

What did you call your neck posture? I have very similar neck posture and didn’t realize it had a name.

Para here. Chair is not the right fit. you need to have your feet fully supported. If you can start fresh, with an OT to measure you properly, that might be best.

I am a c6c7 with 2” dump in my chair on a vicair cushion and I have the mx2 backrest as well— it’s been my set up for over a year and I am pretty happy with it.

You can tell, definitely getting a new back is going to help you so much. I just got one as well, and my posture changed so much.

They should put the dump back. You end up slouching more to reach the push rims. Add some dump and backrest needs to be angled forward more.

you need more seat depth and more back support.

I would try a back rest cushion maybe? It sits on the lower back itll roll your hips forward? They sell it on amazon for a couple bucks. But unfortunately i dont think it is any better than the last🥲
