I was trying to be a wife, a mother, a friend, a sister, and a pastor’s wife before I ever learned how to be a daughter of the King. And the truth is… I didn’t even know how to be His daughter. I knew who God was. I prayed. I served. I preached. I loved people. But I didn’t know who I was in Him. Looking back at my first marriage, I honestly don’t know that it was God who brought us together. I think a lot of it was my impatience, emotions, and lust or maybe, the simple fact of to be able to love someone and for them to love me back. There were red flags. I just didn’t know what red flags were. I was 18. I’d never really been in a serious relationship. I didn’t know what healthy love looked like. I didn’t know how to discern character. And I definitely didn’t know how to wait on God. And once I was in that marriage, I spent so much of my life in fight-or-flight. I was constantly trying to figure things out, hold everything together, and survive. When you live that way long enough, survival starts shaping how you think, how you respond, and how you love. There were so many times it felt like it was just me and my children. When I was scared, rejected, or alone, I ran to them. They became a place of peace and comfort in the middle of the chaos. I don’t regret my children. I’d choose them every single time. I just wish I had known then what I know now. Because before I could learn how to be a wife, mother, friend, sister, or pastor’s wife, I needed to learn how to be His daughter. And honestly? That has been the journey of these last two years. God has been teaching me how to be His daughter. How to be still. How to wait. How to surrender. How to trust His voice. How to let Him lead instead of trying to make things happen myself. He’s been teaching me that I don’t have to live from survival anymore. I can live from identity. 1 John 3:1 says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” Before every role, I was His daughter. And maybe that’s where God wants to begin with you too. Not with trying harder to be a better wife. Not trying harder to be a better mother. Not trying harder to be enough. Maybe He wants to teach you how to be His daughter first. Because when you know whose you are, everything else begins to look different. So, woman of God… Are you living from survival, or are you learning to live from your identity in Him? Because I’m learning: I don’t have to fight for what my Father has already given me. I am His. ❤️ #daughter #surrender #bestill #trustinthelord #fatherdaughter
