Imagine a factory that doesn't build cars. It builds apps. And there isn't a single human on the assembly line. That's a software factory, and it's one of the biggest ideas in tech right now. Here's how it works 👇 For decades, software was made one way: one developer, one keyboard, one task at a time. Write the code, test it, get a teammate to review it, ship it. Then AI assistants arrived and started finishing our lines of code. Then they became agents: tools like Claude Code, Codex and Cursor that take a whole task and do it on their own. Now imagine a whole team of them, each with a job: 🗂️ A planning agent reads the request and breaks it into steps 🔨 Builder agents write the code, many at once 🔍 A separate reviewer agent checks the work, so nobody grades their own homework 💥 Tester agents try to break it 🔁 If it fails, it goes back down the line, again and again, until it works So where are the humans? They stop being the workers and become the factory managers. They decide what to build, write clear instructions and check the results. Some companies are already all in. In February 2026, StrongDM's AI team published two rules: code must not be written by humans, and code must not be reviewed by humans. And the idea isn't new.
