@and_mayhem_ensued_: People are calling Sarah Jessica Parker “selfish” and “pretentious” because she keeps the Sex and the City costumes from the pilot through the movies in her personal archive instead of wearing them or auctioning them off. And honestly… WHAT?! 😂 As a lover of fashion history and a preservationist, this makes me ridiculously happy. These costumes are pieces of television and fashion history, and the fact that they have remained together as a collection is incredibly valuable. The idea that she should auction them off to the highest bidder so random people can own individual pieces completely misses the point of preservation. Once a collection like that gets scattered, it may never be reunited. And I can’t help but wonder how much of the outrage is tied to the fact that these are women’s clothes, worn by a woman, belonging to a woman who had enough foresight to preserve them. We don't call male actors “selfish” for keeping historically significant pieces of their work. Let Sarah Jessica Parker be a little “pretentious.” She has an archive. 😂 And I, for one, am thrilled that these costumes still exist together. #SarahJessicaParker #SexAndTheCity #SATC #CarrieBradshaw #FashionHistory

Another Bad Salad :
The fact that people don’t understand that a lot of these clothes are also probably very fragile because it’s a lot of designer pieces from the 90s edge 2000. That was 30 plus years ago now those pieces are vintage. Plenty of famous people archive their clothing. Dolly Parton archived a lot of her clothing. Phyllis Diller I do believe archived a lot of of her iconic outfits. She is not selfish for not wearing the things that she owns because they need something to her. People think just because you are famous you cannot have any sentimental value towards the things that you have.

Guaranteed that SJP has preserved those pieces very well. A museum display one day would be great

It is so ridiculous, like does anyone expect Tom Holland going around in a Spiderman costume? One day there will be a MET exhibit with this archive

I have my wedding dress and don't plan on wearing it again but I'm not going to sell it either. I also have my old school shirts from grade school to high school also not going to wear them again but I'm also not going to get rid of them either.

There was an episode of a show where Ric Flair went all over the place and spent a ton of money trying to get ahold of one specific robe of his for the WWE museum. In the end, he couldn’t find it and had to settle for buying a different robe from a collector. It seems to me, SJP had the foresight not to ever have to top that.

if she didn't get those clothes, no one would have them in an archive. especially with the way the entertainment industry is going right now.

Part of the reason they were able to reuse a lot of important pieces for the SATC reboot was BECAUSE SJP had taken such good care of the items!

I still think most people hate SJP because they only see her as Carrie Bradshaw, who is a character you either love or hate

if they get auctioned off they will be in a billionaires closet. if she keeps them and puts them into the museum more normal people will be able to enjoy them!!

I don't see what the big deal is. frankly better to let her have it, then for it to sit on a rack in some consignment shop forever gathering dust, before it ends up on some tragic Goodwill rack or worse, the landfill with the rest of the fast fashion these days. this is much to do about nothing.
