@streetvoices11: Why Is SHE Supposed To Apologize For Slavery? 😭 In this debate, the conversation turns from modern racism to slavery and whether people today should personally apologize for historical injustice. The pushback is pretty simple: you can acknowledge that slavery was horrific without treating every person alive today as personally responsible for it. Historical consequences can still matter in modern society, but personal guilt is a separate question. That distinction is where this exchange gets interesting. One side focuses on historical responsibility and lasting inequality, while the other argues that people should be judged by their own actions, not by what someone with the same skin color may have done centuries ago. Where should the line be between understanding history and assigning personal blame today? 👇 #politics #news #racismdebate #americanhistory #culturewar
I was told by a black person that I would never be able to understand discrimination because I’m white… I’m Irish [Crying][Crying]

Okay her argument begins to devolve a bit, but I agree with the premise. If its an action from ancestry and not from you, why should you apologise on their behalf? You didnt choose to do it, you didnt do it (hopefully) so why should you apologise? Of course feeling bad about their actions makes sense, but in no way do you owe anyone an apology for someone else's wrongdoings if you haven't explicitly taken credit or ownership for it.

That's like if Batman found the person that killed his parents but he died, but he had children and then expecting his children to apologize or pay for the crime. if we were going for more realistic let's say people knew about the murder now. For the first few generations, they will pay a price Because everybody will look at them as the family that killed Bruce Wayne's parents but now let's go fifteen generations, and now Bruce Wayne's new family tracks them down and ask them for an apology.

Exactly. I tell these people, if hating me because of my ancestors, who have nothing to with me except the genetic material they provided, then cool. It doesn’t affect me either way.

And she probably still argues that men today should pay for the fact that women four generations ago didn't have the same rights as men then.
